About Us
Paths of Old was established by keen walkers Julian and Claire in response to numerous requests for walks local to Old. Naturally, this also extends to the neighbouring villages, and so the idea for this website was born – to catalogue a series of walks that make use of the multiple paths, tracks and lanes leading from the village.
Each walk has an outline map and written instructions which should be make following the routes easy enough. However, we always recommend taking a copy of the local 1:25,000 scale Ordnance Survey map for detailed directions and additional information, and each walk lists the relevant map(s) required.
Much of the land is farming land, and encounters with wildlife and livestock are probable on many of the walks. You should be perfectly safe, but please follow the Countryside Code, especially its ethos of Respect, Protect, Enjoy. The full Countryside Code can be seen via this link, but to summarise:
Respect other people:
-
consider the local community and other people enjoying the outdoors
-
leave gates and property as you find them and follow paths unless wider access is available
Protect the natural environment:
-
leave no trace of your visit and take your litter home
-
keep dogs under effective control
Enjoy the outdoors:
-
plan ahead and be prepared
-
follow advice and local signs
